Hydration is key during and after your egg retrieval. Staying hydrated before and after can help with a few issues, including bloating, constipation and flushing out excess estrogen.
Why do you get dehydrated during egg donation?
Ovarian stimulation can cause the ovaries to grow larger, and high estrogen levels can lead to water imbalances that cause bloating.
What can you do to minimize bloating?
Drinking fluids with electrolytes, like Liquid IV, Propel, or Gatorade, a few days before and after retrieval can help minimize bloating. You can also try eating water-rich fruits and vegetables, like cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelons, and oranges.
Why is fiber important for egg donation?
Anesthesia used during egg retrieval can cause constipation, which drinking plenty of water and other fluids before retrieval can help prevent. You can also try increasing your fiber intake by eating foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and nuts.
Why else is hydration important?
Staying hydrated after retrieval can help your body flush out the excess estrogen your ovaries have been producing. Some women find it helpful to carry a water bottle around or creating a schedule or alarm to remind yourself to drink water.
